Local MP John Lamont recently attended Cornerstone Connects’s Sunday Club in Galashiels.
Run by local volunteers with Cornerstone, one of Scotland’s largest charities, the Sunday Club is a chance for people with learning difficulties to meet and access support services.
John was invited by Eileen Nichol, the Sunday Club Coordinator, who wanted the local MP to meet the adults using the service and speak about support for people with learning difficulties getting back in to work.
Speaking after the visit, John Lamont MP said: “It was fantastic to meet the Cornerstone Connects group in Galashiels and to be treated to a lovely lunch as well as some interesting questions. It’s a great club, I’d definitely encourage anyone with learning difficulties to pop along.
“People with learning difficulties have a huge amount to give and many are really keen to get in to the work place.
“The UK Government is committed to getting more people with disabilities in to work and there is a whole range of support for potential employees and employers to make this happen.”
