UK Armed Forces veterans from the Scottish Borders have spoken of their joy at getting the chance to visit Downing Street.
David and Fiona Deacon, former Royal Military Police Officers who live in Selkirk, joined me at a reception celebrating veterans at Number 10.
They were recognised for their service to the country and continued work with Poppy Scotland and the Selkirk ex-Soldiers Association.
I was delighted to get the chance to celebrate the amazing work that David and Fiona do in the Borders to help other veterans.
It is always a privilege to pay tribute to UK Armed Forces veterans and thank them for their bravery and dedication.
Fiona Deacon said: “Getting the chance to attend Downing Street was fantastic and I was very honoured to have been afforded this opportunity. Having served in London, I was privileged to attend many government buildings whilst carrying out various duties, but never in Downing Street.”
David Deacon said: “It was a privilege to be invited and a great experience. Good to hear from the UK Veterans Minister about what is currently being done now and in the future to support veterans and their families across the UK.”
