Borders MP, John Lamont, has commented after Douglas Ross MP is announced as the new leader of the Scottish Conservatives.
Mr Lamont ran the leadership campaign of Mr Ross.
John Lamont MP said: “I am delighted that my friend and colleague is the new leader of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist party. I know he has what it takes to stand up for Scotland’s place in our United Kingdom.
“With Douglas as leader we will seek a better debate about the issues people really care about; more good quality local jobs, a better NHS, and an education system Scotland can be proud of.
“For too long the SNP have presided over poor quality public services whilst they focus on their obsession of independence. They also lead a government that all too often forgets that Scotland exists outside the central belt.
“Douglas will help unite Scotland and take us towards a better, more prosperous future.”
