Local MP, John Lamont, visited Chrysties Furniture Centre last week to find out how they are adapting to the restrictions caused by coronavirus.
The furniture store has brought in safety measures such as hand sanitising stations, a one way system, and facemasks and screens to keep staff and customers safe.
John Lamont MP said: “It was great to talk to the team at Chrysties about what they are doing to safely open their doors to customers. It’s very reassuring that customer safety is absolutely at the heart of everything they do.
“Local businesses like this one are what keeps Hawick’s economy moving forward. I was delighted to hear that people from far and wide are continuing to support them in their 30th anniversary year.”
Bob Chrystie said: “Our prime objective before the shutdown was to reassure our staff that we would do everything possible to retain their jobs.
“We had great support from Scottish Borders Council with a business grant and the UK Government furlough scheme which, along with the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme that we arranged through Royal Bank of Scotland, enabled us to achieve our aim of maintaining full employment.
“My thanks also to Trading Standards who provided great advice and support and inspected our safety measures in store.
“Since reopening on the 18th June, we have experienced tremendous support from local folk. So much so that we have taken on a new member of staff!”
