Hawick’s Sandbed post office is set to reopen this week after it was suddenly closed over the weekend.
Speaking to the office of John Lamont MP, the Post Office have today (Thursday 16th May) confirmed that they have recruited a new postmaster and are hoping that the post office will be opened again on Friday.
The closure was due to circumstances beyond the control of the Post Office, but following an intervention by local MP John Lamont, they have worked quickly to get services back up and running.
The closure meant Hawick was temporarily only served by the Burnfoot Post Office, which offered fewer services.
Welcoming the news, John Lamont MP said: “I am delighted that this has been sorted out so quickly by the Post Office, with minimal impact on post office users in Hawick.
“Rather than just complaining about the news, I was in touch with managers at the Post Office first thing this week and pressed home the need for services to be up and running quickly so I’m pleased a new postmaster has now been found.
“And with a new Post Office also hopefully opening on Dickson Street, Hawick is going to be well served going forward.
“With bank closures and the loss of other important services, it is really important that local post offices are retained and people are able to access their pensions and bank accounts locally.”
