John Lamont MP has completed what was the hottest ever London Marathon, running to raise money for MND Scotland and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
Alongside nearly 40,000 other runners, John finished in a time of 3 hours, 38 minutes and 3 seconds and was the fastest of the record number of MPs to take part. At least one MP has run in each of the 37 London Marathons since the first event in 1981.
The marathon was the hottest on record, with temperatures in London reaching 24 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday afternoon, John had raised more than £4,000 for the fight against MND, with the money to be split equally between the two charities.
After crossing the finish line, John Lamont MP said: “It was far too hot to run a marathon, but I’m really pleased to have got round. It’s also a nice bonus to have been the first MP to have crossed the finishing line as well. The crowds in London were great, they really keep you going when your lungs and legs are telling you to stop!
“A huge thanks to everyone who has donated already, the support from Borderers in particular has been amazing. It was a huge boost to have reached my fundraising target before I started the race.
“Both MND Scotland the Doddie’s Foundation do fantastic work to support people living with Motor Neurone Disease and their families. Every penny raised will help pay for this support as well as fund research into a cure for this terrible disease.”
Iain McWhirter, head of fundraising and volunteering at MND Scotland, said: “We cannot thank John enough for raising an amazing amount in the fight against MND. The money raised for MND Scotland will go towards helping us continue to support people affected by this devastating illness in Scotland, as well as funding research which is taking us a step closer to a cure. Running the London Marathon is an incredible achievement, especially on such a hot day. Well done John.”
John’s fundraising page will remain for another 3 weeks. https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JohnLamontMND
