The new year is a great time to look forward with a renewed sense of optimism and purpose.
As your Member of Parliament for the Scottish Borders, I want to outline to you what my priorities will be in 2024.
First and foremost, I will keep helping you as much as possible with any local issues. Whether you need help to get a nearby road fixed or you are struggling to access a service, I am always available to offer you support. I will always work hard to find a solution if I possibly can. So please get in touch with my office if you have any problems that I may be able to help with.
My other top priorities for 2024 are protecting jobs, supporting our health service, improving the education system, and investing in our road and rail network.
Supporting local jobs is my number one concern in this new year. Our economy is growing stronger but I know many people are still struggling with the global increase in the cost-of-living and the rate of inflation. The more high-quality jobs we can attract to the Borders, the better, and I will keep working hard to deliver those opportunities for local people.
We need an even stronger economy so we can invest more in essential services and our transport network. I'll be spending a lot of this year campaigning for more support for our education, healthcare and transport systems. The SNP Government must start delivering on their promises to invest in and improve our public services.
There must be more opportunities for young people to succeed, and more investment is necessary to restore Scotland's schools to their former standards before the SNP came to power.
Waiting lists for essential healthcare must be cut down drastically, so that everyone in the Borders can get appointments and treatment quickly.
Our road and rail network needs investment so that it's easier to get around, services are more reliable, and prices are as affordable as possible.
My full focus for the next 12 months is getting action on those vital issues that make such a difference to your daily lives.
