UPDATE: Friday 16th March
The Post Office have now secured a temporary solution and the Post Office in Eyemouth has reopened. They are working hard to find a long term alternative to that this service can be kept going and I will continue to remain in close contract with HQ about this.
Eyemouth MP John Lamont has described the local post office as “vital” to local residents and is calling on the Post Office to do all it can to secure its long-term future.
Last week, the Eyemouth Post Office closed its doors with virtually no notice making it very difficult for residents and businesses to make alternative arrangements.
John Lamont MP has spoken to the Post Office about this news and has been assured that all steps are being taken to find an interim solution while a replacement post master is found.
John Lamont MP said: “This is clearly very concerning news for those who use the Post Office in Eyemouth. I have already been contacted by pensioners, businesses and other users who are worried about how they will access cash and other services.
“I was in contact with senior managers from Post Office HQ prior to the closure last week. They have assured me that they are working hard to find a temporary solution so that the Post Office services continue to be provided in Eyemouth. I have made sure they are aware of how vital this service is to many people.
“I will continue to work with the Post Office to find a temporary solution as soon as possible. Residents need to know quickly how they will access cash and other essential services.”
