The organisers of the Tartan Giraffe Ball, which raised £250,000 for Doddie Weir’s fight against MND, has been praised by the Leader of the House, Andrea Leadsom MP in Westminster today.
Local MP John Lamont called for time to be made available to debate MND in the House of Commons, and praised the way in which Borderers had got behind Doddie. He also reminded members that he was running the London Marathon in April to raise funds for MND Scotland and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
In response, Andrea Leadsom MP said that she admired the way in which Doddie Weir had reacted to his diagnosis, congratulated everyone who was involved in organising the Tartan Giraffe Ball and commented that she “would love to see the photos.”
Speaking in the House of Commons, John Lamont MP said: “Members will no doubt share my admiration for the way in which Scottish rugby legend Doddie Weir has reacted to his MND diagnosis.
“I would ask the Leader of the House, whether she will allow time for a debate on MND and will she join me in congratulating everyone in Kelso who raised £250,000 to help deal with this terrible disease.”
John added: “Can I also remind members that I am running the London Marathon to help MND Scotland and Doddie’s Foundation and any donations would be welcome.”
In response, the Leader of the House, the Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom MP said she wished luck to all MPs “who are mad enough to take part in the London Marathon.”
She went on to say: “Of course, I share his admiration for the way in which Doddie Weir has reacted to his own MND diagnosis. It is a terrible disease. I congratulate everyone involved in the Tartan Giraffe Ball. It sounds fascinating and I would love to see the photos.”
