The Sandbed Post Office in Hawick has closed until further notice.
It is understood that the closure is due to circumstances beyond Post Office Ltd’s control.
The news means the whole of Hawick is now only served by the branch in Burnfoot, which has reduced opening hours and offers fewer services.
In response to enquiries from local MP John Lamont, a spokesperson for the Post Office has said they are trying to find a solution which will allow the post office to reopen as soon as possible.
Commenting, John Lamont MP said: “This is a big blow to Hawick and we need to get the Post Office back up and running as quickly as possible.
“I’ve been in touch with senior managers at Post Office Ltd, who have explained the reason behind the closure and are working hard to find a solution.
“If this is allowed to go on for too long, it will start to seriously affect residents and local businesses.
“While Hawick is still served by the Burnfoot Post Office, that branch closes earlier than Sandbed and doesn’t offer the same range of services so it is simply not an alternative for many local residents.”
