In the last 24 hours we have seen some promising signs that the EU and the UK may be able to come up with a new Brexit deal. After meeting yesterday, the Prime Minister and Irish Taoiseach have said they can now “see a pathway towards an agreement in the coming weeks” and talks between the EU and the UK have today intensified.
There is clearly still a way to go, but this meeting between the Prime Minister and the Irish leader seem to ended a bit of a deadlock.
The Irish leader has said he is now ‘convinced’ the Prime Minister wants to negotiate a deal and I have consistently said that is my preferred option too.
The majority of people in the Borders, regardless of how they voted in 2016, just want to get Brexit sorted. The best way to do that is to leave the EU, in an orderly way, at the end of October.
Too many of my colleagues have quite simply failed to compromise. I am happy to work with anyone from any party who shares my view that the best way to respect the referendum result is to leave the EU with a deal.
By point blank refusing to back any deal with the EU, SNP and Lib Dem Members of Parliament are fast becoming the real No Deal cheerleaders.
Lets get this deal negotiated and approved by Parliament so that we can get Brexit sorted and let the country move on.
