RNLI lifeguards will return to Coldingham Bay this weekend.
The decision comes after it was originally announced there would be no lifeguards trained for this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Rollout of the normal seasonal lifeguard service was paused at the end of March due to the measures put in place by the government to control the spread of coronavirus. Lifeguard cover was supposed to commence on the 23rd May and run until early September.
Aberdour Silver Sands and St Andrews East Sands are the other Scottish beaches that will see lifeguards return this weekend.
John Lamont MP said: “I am relieved to see that the RNLI lifeguards have been able to arrange coverage for Coldingham Bay. The beach is well used by swimmers and for water sports and this will bring peace of mind to beachgoers.
“I want to thank the RNLI for managing to get lifeguarding back up and running despite the practical challenges posed by the coronavirus.”
“However, we must all remember to stay safe when in and around the sea. Similarly, the advice in Scotland remains that you must not travel further than 5 miles for exercise and recreation.”
