Borders MP John Lamont this week attended a Christian Aid Week Reception in Parliament to show his support for Christian Aid Week (16-20 May) and find out more about the events and activities taking place across the UK.
This year, Christian Aid Week is encouraging people to stand with women in Zimbabwe who are on the front line of the climate crisis. In rural Zimbabwe, seven out of ten women rely on farming to earn a living and provide for their families.
As the climate crisis continues, vulnerable communities are only going to face more intense droughts, floods, and storms - and more women are at risk of losing their livelihoods.
Mr Lamont showed his support for those facing the harshest effects of the climate crisis by attending Christian Aid’s event in Parliament.
John Lamont MP said:
I was delighted to meet with Christian Aid this week to hear about the vital work Christian Aid is doing.
At the event, I learned about the some of the projects Christian Aid were working on, which left me in no doubt that their work is making a real difference to communities across the world.
I would encourage everyone to get involved in Christian Aid Week and Christian Aid events whenever they can.
I am proud that last year, Borderers were able to raise thousands of pounds during Christian Aid Week to support the work of Christian Aid in the fight against global poverty.
