I am very disappointed by news that four bus services in the Scottish Borders will soon cease operating.
People need these services to get to work, to visit friends and family, and to go about their daily lives.
I will strongly oppose this move and I will be speaking to the bus operator and Borders Buses about what we can do to help local people who will be affected.
Scottish Borders Council has reacted quickly and I am pleased to see they are exploring all available options.
If anyone will struggle to travel as a result of this change, please get in touch with my office and I will help however I can.
Bus operator Travelsure say the following services will stop on 24 October 2023:
• Service 32 - Tweedmouth - Berwick - Paxton - Hutton - Swinton
• Service 34 - Tweedmouth - Berwick - Eyemouth - Duns
• Service 236 - Ayton - Eyemouth - Berwick
• Service 260 - Tweedmouth – Duns
Travelsure said it would halt the services due to a national shortage of drivers.
A spokesperson for Scottish Borders Council said it is “working with alternative service providers to maintain connectivity across the Berwickshire area and is exploring all options available to it."
