Small and medium sized businesses in the Borders can apply for funding to help them adapt to new customs and tax rules when trading with the EU.
Businesses that trade with the EU can apply for up to £2000 in funding each from the £20m Brexit Support Fund.
This money from the UK Government will help businesses access professional advice so that customs, excise, import VAT or safety and security requirements can be met.
Since its launch in March, 198 businesses in Scotland have submitted applications to the Fund, with applications totalling £25,406 so far. Across the UK, more than 12,000 businesses have registered for the fund.
Businesses have until 30th June to apply for Brexit support funding.
In order to be eligible for the grant, businesses must not have more than 500 employees and a turnover of no more than £100m. Businesses must only import or export goods between Great Britain and the EU, or move goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This means that if businesses already import or export goods to and from a non-EU country, they are not eligible for funding.
John Lamont MP said:
“It is good news for businesses here in the Borders that they can apply for funding to help them navigate the transition now that we have left the EU.
“I am pleased that the UK Government is delivering for Scottish businesses, supporting jobs and ensuring that trade can continue with our EU neighbours.
“I would encourage any eligible business here in the Borders that has not applied for funding, to do so before the 30th June deadline.”
