More than 1 million rail tickets have gone on sale this morning as the UK Government and the rail industry launches the Great British Rail Sale.
This is the first time that multiple operators have come together to offer nationwide savings of up to 50%.
The scheme is to encourage people to connect with friends and family after the pandemic, boost UK tourism, and encourage the uptake of green travel across the country.
The sale is also seeking to help families with the increase in the cost of living caused by global energy price increases.
Some of the deals on offer to Borderers are listed below.
From Berwick-Upon-Tweed to Edinburgh for £3.10, Newcastle for £3.30, Glasgow for £5.40, York for £7.40, Dundee £8.60, Manchester Airport for £11.20, Aberdeen for £11.80 and London for £21.
From Carlisle to Leeds for £1.50, Newcastle for £1.50, Oxenholme Lake District for £2, Glasgow for £4.40, Edinburgh for £4.50c, and London for £25.50.
Tickets can be purchased online from participating retailers with the up-to-half-price rate applying to a huge range of off-peak tickets spreading the length and breadth of the country. Tickets go on sale from today (19th April) with discounted tickets available on journeys from 25th April to 27th May.
The sale applies to UK Government controlled trains such as LNER and Transpennine Express. Scotrail is controlled by the Scottish Government and is therefore not offering the discount.
To make sure more passengers can benefit, Railcard customers will also be able to save an extra third off a Great British Rail Sale ticket.

John Lamont MP said:
“Since the beginning of 2020, it has been much harder to see our friends and family across the UK. This massive sale of tickets is a great initiative to help reconnect people across Britain.
“This will also help to encourage people back onto our train network, as well as to visit and go on holiday to other parts of the UK.
“There are some great deals from stations like Berwick and Carlisle to get right across the UK, including down to London for just £22.
“Not only are there some great offers for Borderers, but it will help encourage people to come and visit our area too.”
