“However, I am confident that Mark will prove to be a more than capable successor.
"Maintaining a strong relationship with the council is very important to me in my role as an MP in the Borders. I liaise with them daily on a whole host of issues raised by constituents.”

“I sincerely congratulate Mark Rowley on his appointment as the new leader of Scottish Borders Council.
“Taking over from Shona will be no easy task, given her exceptional contribution to the council over the last 4 years. However, I believe that Mark will do a fantastic job, and I am very much looking forward to working with him in his new capacity as leader of the council.
“I will endeavour to support him in any way that I can, and wish him all the very best in his new role as leader of the council”
