Figures show that NHS Borders has the second highest rate of prescribing medicine doses for ADHD in Scotland.
In the Borders there are 25.52 daily doses per 1000 population, significantly higher than the Scottish average of 14.04.
The rate for NHS Borders has almost doubled in a decade, with 2010/11 figures showing just 12.98 daily doses per 1000 people. However, the numbers have plateaued in the last few years.
Across Scotland, the total cost of prescription medicine for ADHD has risen to £8.25 million.
Mr Lamont has previously raised the issue in the Borders as it has been consistently above the Scottish average for a number of years.

“Yet again we see these concerning figures which show the prescription of drugs for ADHD to be much higher in the Borders than almost anywhere else in Scotland.
“I know that many are concerned that the figures for the Borders have been consistently higher than those elsewhere in Scotland.
“No one disputes that ADHD drug prescriptions clearly have their place and I am sure that the clinicians have the best interests of their patients at heart. It is also reassuring to see that the number of prescriptions is not increasing as quickly as in the past.
“But I think it is right for us to ask why Borderers are much more likely to be put on medication than other people in Scotland."
