The Boundary Commission for Scotland has published its initial proposals for a new map of UK Parliamentary constituencies in Scotland.
Minor changes around Clovenfords have been proposed for the constituency of Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk. Apart from this there are no other proposed changes to the existing boundaries of the constituency here in the Borders.
Scotland has been allocated 57 constituencies for the 2023 Review, two fewer than at present. The UK Parliament has retained 650 constituencies.
Proposed changes have been made on the basis that each mainland constituency in Scotland must have broadly the same number of electors.
Commenting, Conservative MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh & Selkirk John Lamont said
“I have always been of the view that during any boundary review the Borders communities within the existing constituency of Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk should remain in one constituency. Although there are minor changes around Clovenfords, I am pleased to see that principle recognised in the Commission's initial proposals.
“As we now enter an eight week consultation period, I would encourage local residents to take part in the consultation as it is vital that views from Borderers are heard. I look forward to the outcome of this process.”
