The UK Government made 168,000 energy bill payments for Borders residents towards the end of 2022, according to new statistics.
These vital UK Government payments to tens of thousands of Borders households are very welcome.
Rising energy bills, as a result of Russia’s war in Ukraine and the Covid pandemic, have been a real problem for families and workers across the Borders.
By stepping in to make payments and provide vouchers for electricity, the UK Government has provided a great safety net to limit the damage to people’s bank balances.
The new figures from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero show that a total of 168,930 payments were delivered in the Scottish Borders from October to December 2022.
A total of 10,870 electricity vouchers were also redeemed during that period in the Borders.
The UK Government has also provided support to businesses to pay energy bills. It recently announced that it will extend the Energy Bills Discount Scheme for businesses until March 2024.
